With a split vote at Tribal Council in Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 5, one theory from a former player has already proven to be correct.

Warning: This post will discuss the Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 5 vote, including the tribe attending Tribal Council and who was eliminated in 15th place.

What a rough night for Twitter and Instagram stans. In an emotionally gripping episode that saw people evacuate the game entirely, come back to broken-down shelters and immediately taken to a Reward Challenge before settling in, we saw one of the rawest, most funny Tribal Councils in a while. You should really check out our full recap of the episode, as a lot was going on.

Jabeni headed to Tribal Council with one of two targets in the minds and hearts of the players; Natalie or Lyrsa. One reason that Angelina wanted to get Lyrsa out was to use her big, green jacket to keep her warm at night, although she admitted that it might have been a selfish reason to do so. It became a big point of contention for Natalie, who seemed to push Nick to grab it for Angelina in order for him to stay safe.

It was a jackets-and-eggs-heavy tribal, with Angelina heading into it knowing full well she can either vote out Natalie for tribe harmony or avoid making a big move now and maintaining the opportunity to get Lyrsa’s jacket. However, she deduced a method to try to get both; by not voting against her, pretending to be blindsided and hugging Natalie so she can get her coat as she left the game.

This isn’t just a theory offered up by Tocantins and Cambodia player Stephen Fishbach on Twitter; Angelina Keeley confirmed as much after the episode aired. She really, really wanted somebody’s jacket so she could stay warm at night, so she didn’t make it a 4-1 unanimous vote so she could pretend not to be blindsiding her.

It’s a great explanation for Angelina’s decision-making, as it shows that she wasn’t completely on the outs of the vote. She’s not in a Kara situation where Alec betrayed her trust; Angelina knew what was coming and decided it was good for her game. The “Next Time On Survivor” preview might suggest otherwise, but there were two or three red herrings thrown out regardless. Plus, that denied begging for the jacket was hilariously cringy stuff.
