After a surprising blindside, the castaway that was voted out after this week’s episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath revealed what exactly happened.

No one expected the Mayor of Slamtown to get voted out the way he did. Even John himself was completely shocked by the chain of events. In his exit interviews following this week’s episode of Survivor, John filled us in with what happened and what he could have done better.

John was aware of Alec’s relationship with the Davids. During John’s interview with Rob Cesternino on RHAP, he mentioned that they knew Alec was a bit of a question mark. It was clear that he was having one on one conversations with a few original David members. However, Johnny Impact thought Alec was going to be an issue further down the road, not the next Tribal Council!

As for Dan playing his idol for Angelina, John was on board and thought that was a done deal. From his perspective, the edit made Dan’s decision to play his idol more spontaneous than it actually was.

The Goliaths did have conversations with Alec about the Natalia vote. Out of all the Goliath members, John appeared to be pushing their tribe to stick together more than anyone else. He did mention how he was upset that Alec flipped on a Goliath member.

Although it didn’t seem to be a main point of discussion, John revealed that they had a few short conversations with Alec, trying to figure out why he made the move to vote out Natalia. Alec responded by saying Natalia was acting irrationally, but John didn’t really buy it.

John wishes he talked more strategy. Looking back at his gameplay, John felt that he built strong social relationships with many of the castaways, but he rarely discussed strategy with them. His closest allies in Dan, Alison, Angelina, and Christian were simply the people who he spent the most time with.

If he could go back and change how he played, John felt he could have had more meaningful strategic conversations with David members. If he did build those relationships beyond sharing details about their personal lives, that could have motivated Christian, Davie, and Nick to throw their votes on someone else instead.

Either way, the Mayor of Slamtown exceeded our expectations. Instead of being a loud, egotistical character that many thought John would be, he surprised us by showing the viewers his cool, relatable and down to earth personality.
