Fourteen new players will get their first shot to compete for airtime and the attention of the fanbase while the four returnees will bask in the glory of past accomplishments while earning their right to new ones.

Aubry Bracco, Joe Anglim and Kelley Wentworth are back to try and earn a victory on their third tries, while David Wright is back for his second shot. Two returnees will lead seven newbies each on the Kama and Manu tribes, showing just how few Fijian tribe names are left in the Rolodex. David is the only player to have previously played on these beaches, so he does have a leg up.

Whoever will be voted out tonight might not end their Survivor: Edge of Extinction journey after episode 1. Players will be given a choice after leaving Tribal Council defeated; either quit or grab a new torch and head to Extinction Island. Life is tough on the island, and players have no idea when they will have the opportunity to come back and compete once more.

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Wait, they’re bringing back Redemption Island again,” you may be correct. Who knows; CBS has been just as quiet to the audience as to the players, who have no clue they are voting out players who can potentially return later. How that will change the gameplay dynamics is anyone’s guess.
