Tensions start to boil over at Extinction Island, and two people are going home as teased in the Survivor: Edge of Extinction episode 5 promo.

The Survivor: Edge of Extinction episode 5 promo will showcase snippets of the upcoming two-hour block that will air next week.

Something that might be a bit surprising to start Survivor: Edge of Extinction is that there haven’t been many conflicts on the beaches at any camp. Yes, the OG Manu tribe was not living for Wendy’s chicken antics, but even then, everyone’s pretending to get along and being cordial with each other. Even Reem’s initial coldness with Chris arriving at Extinction Island warmed up after he caught fish.

However, it looks like we’ll finally start to see some emotional flare-ups in Survivor: Edge of Extinction episode 5, as the commercial promo shows that Reem has had enough with someone to the point where some curse words start flying. Though we likely won’t have a King or Queen of Ponderosa this season, the Mayor of Extinction rules with an iron fist.

There are a lot of things going on in this promo, starting with Lauren crashing and falling during a challenge. That bleeds into Reem’s fight, David promising something “chaotic” (did they just reveal Lesu goes to Tribal Council?), Victoria revealing in a confessional not to trust her, Lauren getting the Gabby edit on her fourth day of crying in a row (her words) and Chris asking “WHAT’S IN THE BOX?” at the Edge of Extinction.

We don’t know which parts of the promo are in the first hour or the second hour (some logical exceptions excluded), but it seems to me as though we’re being rushed through the pre-merge as soon as possible. I can’t remember a two-hour episode at this stage of the season before; before the merge and after the premiere.

We might not even see an Extinction Redemption challenge until the merge, but it’s clear that there’s something worth scouring the island for the players voted out of the game. It will prove to be an interesting wrinkle in a season just waiting to pop off.
