The women of Survivor: Edge of Extinction are flexing their muscles and have shown that women can play the game just as effectively as men.

In past seasons of Survivor, there have been great women players, but it’s still usually the men that get fixated on at season’s end. Edge of Extinction, however, has tipped the scale heavily in favor of the women outplaying the men to this point.

Let’s start with the Hidden Immunity Idols.

The three whole idols found in Survivor: Edge of Extinction at the moment (we’re not counting Rick’s and David’s half idol spiel handed to Rick without trying) all belong or belonged to women. Lauren found one, Kelley found one, and Aubry also had one, though she was sent to the Edge of Extinction before she could properly use it.

Anyway, three women have never found idols in the same season, which is groundbreaking enough. Wentworth has proven she can find idols, having found two in Cambodia and fighting her way to the Final Four as a result. Aubry had yet to find one, but did this season and then didn’t play it when she should have. Aubry also found the practice advantage on the Edge of Extinction over the likes of Joe and Chris.

  • Now, let’s shift to the first two Immunity Challenges after the merge.

Most would have expected Joe to come away victorious in last week’s challenge because when push comes to shove, we all expect him to win every single challenge. Unless it’s who has the shortest hair or who’s the least athletic or who’s the worst looking, Joe is probably going to win whatever is being contested.

That wasn’t the case, though! Not only did Joe not win the first individual Immunity Challenge, he wasn’t even the runner-up. No, both Julie and Lauren outlasted Joe in the challenge, with Julie ultimately winning it.

The female dominance didn’t stop there, however, as Aurora won the second challenge. Runner-up was Victoria, who didn’t budge until she fell out of the challenge. Lauren tried so hard that she literally fainted. Talk about girl power!

The highlight of the recent episode was Julia, Gavin, and Victoria switching things up and voting off their Kama counterpart Eric. While Wardog was the one who got the idea in their heads, Julia was the one who approached her allies about it and made the plan happen. She knew she had to make a big move in order to boost her resumé and she did just that.

It’s nice to see the women of this season taking charge of things and kicking butt in all aspects of the game. Women have won both individual Immunity Challenges and found all three of the whole Hidden Immunity Idols out there.

Only one true question remains; will we see a woman win the season for the first time since Survivor: Game Changers?
