Ron made a conservative move in Survivor: Edge of Extinction by returning the Extra Vote advantage to Aurora, but was it a smart decision?

There hasn’t been a lot of drama with twists and idols in this season of Survivor. The rest of the castaways usually don’t find out about the advantage until it’s played. Aurora’s Extra Vote was on the verge of creating a dramatic confrontation, but Ron decided to take the easy way out.

Right before the Wentworth vote, Aurora was convinced that she was next to go. She didn’t want to leave the game with something in her pocket like Aubry did, so she passed it on to Ron. If she went home, Aurora would have been happy for Ron to have it. If she survived, then she preferred to get it back.

Ron was put into a situation similar to Sierra’s Legacy Advantage in Game Changers. He could have pulled a Sarah and pushed to vote out Aurora so he could keep the Extra Vote. Or he could have simply not have given it back. With only a few people left in the game, having a two-vote swing is huge! However, the risk might be too high for this gamble. You have to execute this move perfectly if you don’t want any backlash.

What Sarah did Game Changers was remarkable, but she was under the radar and playing with more intimidating threats. She still had a small margin for error, but she was able to fit through that narrow window. Ron’s situation is a little more difficult.

Besides Devens, Ron is arguably the biggest threat to win the game. Making a move to keep Aurora’s Extra Vote would be equivalent to Wardog blindsiding Kelley. It’s just going to make Ron a bigger target.

On top of that, Aurora isn’t the type of person to keep quiet in situations like this. If Ron didn’t give back her Extra Vote, there’s a good chance that news would come out at Tribal Council from Aurora, especially if she feels threatened.

Instead of taking the risky option, Ron decided to conceal his threat level by working on his social game. When he gave Aurora her Extra Vote back, that cemented their relationship. At this moment, it’s hard for me to see Aurora voting without Ron, because other than him, who else is Aurora close to?

I still think Ron is too big of a threat and will get his torch snuffed before Final Tribal, but his decision to work on his social game instead of taking a risky strategic gamble gives him a better shot at making it to the end.
