After one of the most iconic Survivor players was eliminated last week, The Amazing Race 31 episode 3 previews show the two teams left from that show.
Last week’s Amazing Race episode was kind of a bummer for Survivor fans. By the grace of sheer dumb luck, Rupert and Laura Boneham weren’t eliminated in the first leg but found themselves stumbling through Laos in the second leg with reckless abandon. To be fair, 10th place and elimination came down to steering an elephant down a river while speaking to it in Lao, and Rupert could barely speak English well enough at times.
This means that of the nine teams left in the game, four are returning teams, three are from Big Brother, and two teams (Eliza Orlins and Corinne Kaplan, plus Chris Hammons and Bret LaBelle) are from Survivor. The odds are not that great for those who specialize in 39-day adventures, as the fast-paced action has proven to require an entirely different set of skills.
Still, we can’t look too dour, as the race has many legs left to go. Perhaps a Survivor team will win leg three during The Amazing Race 31 episode 3, as the first of two related preview videos shows the race traveling to Vietnam. One of the big challenges that will make or break teams is a choreographed dancing challenge, with an instructor passing or failing teams with strict fervor.
Unfortunately, there are no Survivor: Fiji teams here competing in this leg, as anyone who made it to the Mekee challenge during that season would likely thrive in a competition that requires repeating dance moves with enthusiasm. Sure, Chris and Bret played in a season that took place in Fiji, but that’s no the same.
The second Amazing Race 31 episode 3 preview video shows Eliza Orlins playing up the Team Villain status on a karaoke-based Roadblock challenge. One player from each team needs to sing a Vietnamese karaoke song for an audience, and it looks like Eliza’s incoherent yelling was an attempt to distract Victor from concentrating.
Though they are the leading Survivor team after leg 2, rubbing people the wrong way is not going to help you make friends in this race for the long term. Hopefully, they smarten up and play a more social-forward game if they want to prove Survivor players can thrive in other competitions.
