Any morsel of information makes the Survivor: Edge of Extinction finale that much more intriguing, and the synopsis has us wondering what will happen.
It’s hard not to take a look at the power rankings heading into the Survivor: Edge of Extinction finale and wonder how others will try their best to take away what has been telegraphed as The Rick Devens Show. Everyone seems to heap praise onto Rick as if he is some sort of demigod, and it’s up to Scooby Doo and the gang to see who’s really behind the mask.
We still have no idea who will join the Final Five as of right now, but we do know that we are in for a supposedly “unpredictable” finale. Perhaps part of the mystery for why it’s unpredictable lies in a player going rogue, as the Survivor: Edge of Extinction finale synopsis provided by CBS describes perhaps the worst thing a player can do in the final days of the game; completely fall apart.
The first sentence describes the function of every finale: one player overcoming the odds over 39 days and winning a million dollars. However, the second sentence reads, “One castaway’s game will unravel, and someone will get a chance to return to the game,” right before trailing off about when you can catch the finale on TV.
Obviously, you can’t take that as an order of events, as there likely won’t be much time before the Edge of Extinction Challenge brings back on Day 35. However, whose games would likely unravel at this stage in a notable way that isn’t Rick Devens, the man that had been running on fumes and needing to win immunity (through idols or necklaces)?
It can’t be the Edge of Extinction returnee as their game likely “unraveled” the moment they were voted out. Julie’s game has already started to unravel the moment Ron was voted out. Lauren’s game might unravel if she, too, is voted out with an idol in her pocket. Gavin and Victoria might see their social-forward games unravel if they try to pull off a botched blindside, showing they don’t know the game as well as they should have.
My money’s on Rick since he seems like the “destined one” this Survivor season, but that’s the magic of this show; it could be another Donathan situation where someone’s game implodes because nobody’s taking out the obvious threats. Anything can happen, and that’s why we watch each season.
