Ahead of the Survivor: Edge of Extinction finale, we must ask ourselves a similar question for each finalist. Now we ask; can Lauren O’Connell win this game?

For the first half of Survivor: Edge of Extinction, Lauren hid under the shadow of her closest ally Kelley Wentworth. When Wentworth was shockingly blindsided, many wondered how Lauren would react. However, the past few episodes saw her come into her own, forming strong alliances and even persuading people to vote with her, putting her in a good position heading into the finale.

Lauren’s chances of making Final Tribal

Lauren is the only player remaining who has an idol that no one left in the game is aware of. That alone greatly increases Lauren’s chance of making it to the Final Three. She’s also still not the main target.

For the longest time, Lauren has floated under the radar since the tribal lines blurred. Not only is Rick the biggest threat remaining, but another player is about to return from the Edge of Extinction. That presents another shield for Lauren, and we can’t forget about Gavin either.

As a result, Lauren might not get a vote her way for the next two Tribal Councils. If there is ever a situation where Rick plays an idol, Lauren has the security of playing hers to prevent herself from going home because of one stray vote.

That brings her safely to the Final Four fire-making challenge. This could be the editors trolling us, but over the past few weeks, on two separate occasions, they edit has included brief comments about Lauren’s fire-making abilities.

Could this foreshadow Lauren making a successful fire to get into the Final Three? Maybe, maybe not, but it does tell us that Lauren is solid at starting a fire, so as long as she makes it to the Final Four, she has a good shot. And I can’t ignore the relationships she has built with Julie and Gavin, which might be enough to carry her to the end.

Lauren’s chances of receiving votes at Final Tribal

Lauren’s odds of earning the title of Sole Survivor are straightforward. If she’s up against Rick she loses. If she’s with anyone else she most likely wins, except maybe if the Edge of Extinction returnee goes on an Immunity run.

If Lauren makes the Final Three, there’s a good chance she’s sitting beside Julie. In that case, Lauren definitely has more favor with the jury than her. Gavin and Victoria are tougher competition, but with all the Manu members on the jury, Lauren still has the upper hand.

For the longest time, it was difficult to pick out one significant strategic move that Lauren made. However, that changed during the last episode. She successfully convinced Gavin, and in extension Victoria, to throw their votes on Aurora instead of Julie.

Although Aurora has been slightly distant from everyone else since Joe left, she was definitely closest to Victoria and Gavin. By removing one of their allies and keeping Julie around, Lauren has another number play with. This brilliant move puts her in a position to get rid of Gavin and Victoria before Final Tribal Council.

Verdict

Next to Devens, Lauren possesses the best odds at winning the title of Sole Survivor. She still isn’t the immediate target, she still has an idol, and she’s been able to make some savvy moves under the radar. Plus she has a favorable jury, so Lauren could realistically be Survivor: Edge of Extinction’s winner. The big concern for her revolves around getting Devens out within the next three Tribal Councils. If she can do that, then she’s golden!
