Overconfidence is a slow, insidious killer, as Aubry Bracco’s embarrassment of riches became an embarrassment of eliminations. Should she return to Survivor?

It could only happen on a season such as Survivor: Edge of Extinction where Aubry Bracco’s story is one of being a champion. Not to say that Aubry isn’t one of the more prolific players in the show’s history (even before this season, she has played the game more than most), but each time she’s played she’s been an underdog, overcoming adversity in striving to become the Sole Survivor.

In Koah Rong, she was crying in the shelter early before fighting for her right to stay in the game, lasting 39 days. In Game Changers, she made it 37 days being virtually on the bottom for the majority of a month, using her social graces and alliances to make it as far as she did. However, in Edge of Extinction, she and Joe were leading a virtually unstoppable Kama tribe.

However, in contrary to regular mixed player seasons, Kama was filled with superfans who, from Day 1, wanted to get out the returning players. In fact, they were comparing notes to Aubry’s ability to socialize, especially as she used corporate doublespeak such as “create a dialogue” and “I see so much of myself if you.” Knowing she was in trouble, she hunted and found the tribe’s Hidden Immunity Idol; the first of her career.

However, the only time Aubry became vulnerable was when she and three other Kama members joined Manu at a 4-1 majority, with Wendy Diaz as the obvious vote. Not only did she have an idol in her pocket, she received an extra vote from Rick Devens on the Edge of Extinction. With more options than ever, she brushed off her intuition about things being too easy.

As a result, Aubry was voted out in fifth, arriving on the Edge of Extinction and competing for another shot at playing the game at the merge. She fell short, but she did get an advantage on the island to practice the first part of the Day 35 challenge. That didn’t bode too well, as she was one of 10 people who lost to the eventual winner of the season.
