Most memorable moments from season one of Survivor
1. – “The winner of the first Survivor competition is…”
It’s a moment that went down in television history. When Jeff Probst turned that final vote around and revealed to America who was the first winner in Survivor history, it was the most memorable moment of the first season by a long shot.
The reveal of each season’s winner is a much different process now, as Jeff makes the final two/three wait months before they get to find out if they’re a million dollars richer or not. But in the first season, they revealed it then and there.
With the votes tied at three apiece for Kelly and Rich, the final vote would decide the winner. Everyone was on the edge of their seat as Probst turned the ballot around, and it read “RICH.”
We’ll never know how the show would have turned out had Kelly been named the winner, but Rich seems like the perfect person to have won the first ever installment.
Rich being named the winner might be the most memorable, but it’s hard to list Sue Hawk’s jury speech as number two because of how brutal it was. Sue marked the beginning of future players trying to reach her level of bitterness. While some have come close, they’ll never touch Sue’s legendary speech.
