Survivor Thailand: Most memorable moments from season five

“Does anybody here want to switch tribes?”

Give the Survivor producers credit. They tried to make Survivor: Thailand more interesting, but in episode five, their attempt at a twist fell flat on its face.

Sook Jai and Chuay Gahn arrived at their reward challenge in episode five with Sook Jai having seven members and Chuay Gahn having five. Before the challenge began (which ended up being a team auction), Jeff Probst gave them a choice; he asked, “Does anybody here want to switch tribes?”

This gave us the first-ever confessionals during a challenge, with Helen, Jan, Shii Ann, and Stephanie all explaining to us why they opted not to switch despite thinking about it. It would have made sense for all four of those contestants to switch tribes, especially Stephanie, who was clearly an outsider on Sook Jai and wound up being booted that very same episode.

In the end, nobody took Jeff up on his offer.

While we’d later see this twist attempted again and succeeding in Survivor: Cook Islands, this could very easily be considered the first-ever flop of a twist in Survivor history.
