Hearing what players want to do in the game of Survivor will help the audience get to know the 20 castaways set to play the game of Island of the Idols.

Playing the game of Survivor means different things for different people. Some, if you could believe it, would rather have the title of Sole Survivor than the million-dollar check that comes with it, showing that there are some people so well off who play the game that the money means little for them.

That’s what helps make Survivor such a dynamic, compelling game each time out; like a box of chocolates, you don’t know what you’re going to get. These Island of the Idols castaways look to be an enigmatic bunch themselves, with players from all walks of life from Generation Z through the Baby Boom.

Because of the variety of perspectives this season, it’s great to see that the castaways got to talk about what they want to accomplish in Island of the Idols. CBS released a video of the players doing just that and thanks to the heavy focus on advantages and idols, it seems as though the pinnacle of many Survivor players’ games will be if they can find a trinket that can keep them safe.

It’s fun to see what kind of boxes the players fit into, as it’s strong guys like Tom but also more well-rounded players like Molly and Karishma who want to test themselves in the challenges. More are either non-committal or give avoidance answers, like Vince with the entirety of the experience or Tommy actively avoiding a bucket list.

I also loved players talking about stuff we know won’t happen. Dan wants to thrive in the boat marooning, but we know the players will start on their own islands with their tribes, foregoing that moment. The Loved One’s visit was a benchmark used as a strategy in Edge of Extinction, but it takes an analytical mind of a poker player to have “make it to the end of the game” as their primary bucket list goal.
