Not only is Survivor: Island of the Idols’ Dan Spilo appearing on CBS, he is also the executive producer of NBC comedy Sunnyside, airing on Thursday nights.

This has been an eventful week for Dan Spilo. While a talent manager typically has a lot of dealings in Hollywood with actors, he’s had a fair share of both on-screen roles and power positions behind the scenes. He had a small cameo at the 2019 Emmys, then on Wednesday night, he got a bit too intimate with the Vokai tribe for everyone’s liking on Survivor: Island of the Idols.

Having a client nominated for an Emmy and getting yourself on television is no small week, but a non-stop rollercoaster continued for Dan. He started the week on FOX, arrived mid-week on CBS, and the show Sunnyside, a comedy to which he executive produces, premiered on NBC. The show stars Kal Penn as a disgraced former NYC councilman as he seeks redemption by helping an eclectic group of immigrants to become US citizens.

You can check out an overview of the first season below, highlighting the character dynamics of Sunnyside in what they hope to provide for a full first season. Unlike Survivor executive producer Jeff Probst, Dan Spilo doesn’t appear to be the showrunner of the program, effectively being less hands-on in the day-to-day operations of the show.

If you want to support Dan Spilo as much as possible, you might want to pick up the pace with watching Sunnyside. As per the final Thursday night ratings on TV By The Numbers, the show’s premiere did not fare well, with just 1.77 million watching and receiving a 0.4/2 ratings/share split.

For comparison, the premiere of Survivor: Island of the Idols, while disappointing compared to prior years and losing the night to its Wednesday 8 p.m. competitor, saw 6.29 million people watch the show and earned a 1.3/6 ratings/share split. It is a long-running show, but hopefully, Sunnyside’s ratings pick up.
