Rob Cesternino got the chance to speak with the first player voted out of Survivor: Island of the Idols, sharing some interesting details of the first three days.

This article will discuss the events in the premiere of Survivor: Island of the Idols, including the first person to get voted out.

After not hearing any exit interviews during Edge of Extinction because of the nature of the twist, it’s exciting to have that resource back for Island of the Idols. Rob Cesternino kicked off the season by talking with Ronnie Bardah, the fourth professional poker player to be on Survivor. Here are some of the highlights of the interview that shed some light on the dynamics within the Lairo tribe.

Unlike Vokai, they couldn’t start a fire

One standout moment from the season premiere was watching Janet Carbin make a fire fairly quickly without flint. The Lairo tribe didn’t fare as well. Aaron and Ronnie tried earnestly to make fire with bamboo but just couldn’t do it. Could have Ronnie’s fate been different if they succeeded at starting a fire?

Ronnie acknowledges his missed opportunities

While he and Aaron were trying to make fire, Chelsea Walker was hanging out, reaching out to Ronnie with the prospect of working together. He told Cesternino that he sort of shrugged her off because he was in work mode, and never got the opportunity to confront her about forming an alliance after that point.

Another moment Ronnie regretted was when he threw out Chelsea’s name to the group. He simply mentioned how he didn’t like the way she gave up towards the end of the Immunity Challenge. That news got back to Chelsea, and that was definitely fuel to paint the target on Ronnie’s back.

Shared interesting facts about current alliances

It was cool getting to hear Ronnie’s viewpoint on where everyone stood within the tribe. He was tight with Aaron and Karishma, and he believes that Karishma changed her vote last minute once others informed her that the majority was voting for Ronnie.

The most obvious alliance was the bond between Elaine, Tom, and Vince, but Ronnie spoke about another trio. He felt the Elizabeth, Missy, and Chelsea were fairly tight. As for Dean who received no confessionals in the premiere, Ronnie thought he was all over the place and didn’t really have a close ally yet.

Didn’t see it coming although he felt bad vibes

Leading up to Tribal Council, Ronnie did feel that people like Tom and Elizabeth were acting a little weird around him. That said, he didn’t know for sure what was going to happen and didn’t want to jeopardize his position by panicking at Tribal.

The deck was stacked against him

In the Hollywood Reporter’s Series Regular podcast, Josh Wigler revealed what the other players said about Ronnie at Ponderosa, before filming began. Many of his fellow Lairo members painted a negative picture of him, especially Elaine! On the other hand, there were several castaways who ended up on the Vokai tribe that wanted to work with Ronnie.

If he was on the other tribe, maybe he could have avoided being the first one out. Unfortunately for Ronnie, the cards weren’t laid out in his favor, as he became one of the better players to leave the game so early on.
