Desperate to earn some goodwill back on the Vokai tribe, the Survivor: Island of the Idols episode 2 secret scene sees Jason try to bring back some papaya.

So much of the theming for Vokai in Survivor: Island of the Idols so far has focused on high school clique dynamics. “The outsiders versus the cool kids” has been a storyline for Noura and Jason, supposedly, with the former decidedly more obsessed with outshining their perceived lackluster childhood life than playing a good game.

Jason, however, has some self-awareness of his position in the game and has worked to correct the perception others have of him. As seen in the Survivor: Island of the Idols episode 2 secret scene, in an effort to make Jason the Idol Hunter look like Jason the Hero, he tried to gather a new resource for his tribe; papaya fruits.

After spotting the fruit high up in a small tree, with the permission of the tribe to walk away for five minutes, he tried to knock the tree’s fruit down by shaking it side to side. He also tried to climb up the tree, but because it’s been raining so much in Fiji (it is an odd-numbered season, after all), he just slid down the front time and time again.

Time to Climb!

Turns out, climbing a papaya tree is harder than it looks. Check out this never-before-seen clip!

Instead of getting a surprise hero moment, Jason did reveal the existence of the papaya as Dan suggested straight-up cutting down the tree. With hatchet in hand, Jason took tool to tree and did just that, chopping it down and bringing fruit to the tribe with a modicum of success.

It makes sense this scene wasn’t part of this Survivor episode, just like it made sense that they didn’t show Boston Rob and Sandra lying about on the Island of the Idols; it goes against the flow of the episode’s storyline. Why show this when you can focus on Noura’s meltdown and how she and Jason are on the outs? It makes more sense knowing how the episode ends.
