There’s nothing quite like a tribe swap in Survivor. It’s fairly late for modern season standards, for 20 players to get down to 16 before dropping buffs, but it does allow for player dynamics to flow a bit differently than once expected earlier on.
For example, I would have suspected that only men on Lairo would have been voted out, as Chelsea’s blindside was as much a shocker for the audience as it was for most of the tribe maybe even an hour before Tribal Council. Missy wanted to follow through with her plan to split up the showmance, and she found it by maintaining the women-men numbers while finding a name suitable for Elaine and Elizabeth.
Despite pulling it off, it puts a huge target on Missy’s back, as she feels like she can do almost anything in this game at a moment where being flexible (and, mostly, invisible) is a viable strategy for the leader of a tribe with two fewer players on it than the original Vokai. Orange has been a cursed tribe color for a few seasons now, and it looks like the curse lives on in Island of the Idols.

Speaking of, last week, we saw the first ho-hum test and reward offered as part of the mentors’ role for the season, as Noura lost her vote because she couldn’t convince her tribe to make her the caller of the Immunity Challenge. The fact that she could have blocked one player’s vote as part of the test shows the discrepancy of the twist depending on when you go.
