The latest Survivor: Island of the Idols castaway to get the boot was an unfortunate victim of a tribe swap, but harbors no hard feelings.

This post reveals details from episode 5 of Survivor: Island of the Idols.

This past episode featured the first-ever Canadian born Survivor contestant to get their torch snuffed. Tom Laidlaw went out in true Canadian fashion by leaving the game in good spirits and being kind to everyone who voted him out. That same presence continued in his exit interview with Rob Cesternino on RHAP. Here are some of the highlights from that podcast.

Felt the pressure but didn’t think it was him

It became clear fairly quickly after the Immunity Challenge that the five original Vokai members would stick together to take out one of the three Lairos. So it’s no wonder that Tom did feel in trouble, but he didn’t think it was him.

Tom was still disappointed with Karishma’s contribution to challenges and camp life, so he thought she was the one going home. Unfortunately for him, he was wrong, but he understood their reasoning for voting him out.

Hinted at the showmance being exaggerated

One of the biggest storylines this season was Dean and Chelsea’s “showmance”, which surprisingly led to Chelsea getting completely blindsided. There’s a ton of talk about whether or not there was a legitimate relationship between the two and thankfully Tom shed some light on it.

When talking about this blindside, Tom said that Missy and Aaron took the showmance potential and used it as a reason to vote her out. Although Chelsea and Dean spent some time together and got along well, it seems that this was the extent of their relationship. Missy took advantage of this opportunity and exaggerated this bond to persuade Lairo to vote off someone other than Karishma.

Tom revealed the dynamics within Vokai

The Canadian only had a few days to mingle with the recently swapped Vokai members, but he already began to figure out their hierarchy. He noticed that Noura was clearly on the outs and that Jamal was not getting along with her.

Tom tried to work on this crack by shifting the target to Noura, but the original Vokai members wouldn’t budge. He wanted to be viewed as a fatherly figure that everyone wanted to keep around, but unfortunately, the Lairo losses put him at a disadvantage when the tribe swap finally came.
