Though the season has had a great many small, intimate moments, it’s hard to see where the overall direction of Survivor: Island of the Idols is headed. Unlike Ghost Island’s first-half that was building up a Chris vs. Domenick showdown, David vs. Goliath’s self-descriptive theming, and Edge of Extinction bringing a player back into the fray, we don’t have much to build beyond “(tribe) strong.”

There are some hints of developing storylines, and betrayal is a main theme. Earlier in the season, Chelsea was voted out with an idol in her pocket (a power unknown to her tribe) because Missy was contingent on making a big move rather than the right move down the line. Ironically, she was partially involved with the latest betrayal, although Aaron got the majority of the blame for burning bridges and voting out Jason over Elaine.

Making unforced errors in a race to make the biggest move seems to be the prevailing thought, as people have been building resumes much quicker than usual (or necessary). Though eliminations have been couched in “(tribe) strong” mantra after the swap, people have been crossing over and burning bridges all while going on personal journeys and tests of the mentors on the Island of the Idols.

It’s kind of befitting for the 39th season of 39 days (or more) of island competition, as it’s kind of refreshing just how much everybody wants to win at all costs. Watch the Survivor: Island of the Idols episode 7 live stream online tonight to find out who is the final pre-merge boot:
