Karishma saved her season in dramatic fashion during episode 11 of Survivor: Island of the Idols, earning her our pick for MVP.

This article discusses the events from episode 11 of Survivor: Island of the Idols.

In almost every Survivor season there’s usually that one underrated castaway who has a standout moment. Karishma’s performance in episode 11 falls under that category, surprising everyone with a perfectly executed idol play. Could this even catapult Karishma into a position to become the Sole Survivor of Island of the Idols?

One thing we learned about Karishma back in preseason interviews was her deep understanding of this game. Typically, castaways that we label as goats are oblivious to the strategy behind Survivor. Karishma might come off as more of an emotional player than a strategic one, but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s a long time fan of this show and knows how to play this game logically.

Some of the smartest contestants in recent seasons, including Aubry Bracco, Kelley Wentworth, and Kellee Kim have all been sent to the jury with at least one idol in their possession. On the other hand, Karishma was able to effectively read into the situation to determine the best time to use her lifeline.

Last week she picked up on the fact that she wasn’t the target in spite of initial concern, and wisely kept her idol in her pocket, or should I say in her armpit. Noticing a different vibe entering this week’s Tribal Council, Karishma boldly played her idol when Elizabeth appeared to be the obvious target.

It was also wise thinking to keep her idol on her body instead of in her bag, which helped preserve the secrecy and surprise of her big play. That led to a ton of shocked reactions and a hefty seven votes voided, which is the same mark Russell Hantz erased in his iconic idol play in Samoa.

Unfortunately for Karishma, she missed her initial target, but she still extended her life in the game, making a clear statement. It was smart of her to change her vote to Elizabeth at the re-vote, that way she doesn’t piss off Janet even more for no reason. With allegiances within the Final Eight still shifting, the door is open for her to extend her stay even further. After her big idol play, Karishma might end up getting the boot next week, but the preview hinted at Karishma trying to take advantage of this situation, so you never know.
