The all-important family visit and an upcoming idol hunt highlight the stories to watch in episode 12 of Survivor: Island of the Idols.

It’s hard to believe that tonight’s Survivor: Island of the Idols action will be the second last episode before the season finale. With only eight castaways remaining, almost every decision and every challenge performance can impact who makes the Final Three. That’s intensified even further when loved ones enter into the equation. Here are a few storylines to watch in tonight’s episode of Survivor.

1) Who will be left out of the family visit?

Choosing who will come along with you after winning a reward challenge always has repercussions, but that’s nothing compared to the loved ones visit. It might even be better to intentionally lose this challenge to avoid getting backlash from bitter castaways. In addition to that, there isn’t really any clear alliances left in Island of the Idols besides Lauren and Tommy. That will make it much more difficult for the winner to choose who they will take and who they won’t.

2) It’s time for another idol hunt

With last week’s double idol play, there are no Immunity Idols in possession. That guarantees at least one will be re-hidden back at camp and perhaps another temporary one up for grabs at the Island of the Idols. At this point, I think Karishma, Janet, Lauren, and Tommy need this idol the most, and if one of those four finds it, that might be just what they need to make it to the Final Three with a convincing case.

3) A resurgence of an all-female alliance?

There was a ton of talk of a women’s alliance earlier in this season, but that was sort of shut down after Kellee and Janet made their moving speeches on that topic. That said, this seems like a perfect situation for some of the women to band together to take over the game.

Karishma made a huge move by saving herself last week, but she needs more than a one-time idol play to get deeper into this game. If she can somehow pull Elaine, Janet, and Noura in to help them see the need to separate Tommy and Lauren, they might be able to form a game-changing alliance. Breaking up that duo will be key for anyone else’s chances of winning it all.
