6. Tyson Apostol

Somehow, Tyson Apostol wasn’t one of the first people sent to the Edge of Extinction in the Survivor: Winners at War merge phase. You would think the only person who many constitute as playing an old-school game left would be target number one, especially when all these players just saw two Edge returnees finish in fourth place and first place on their televisions.

For what it’s worth, Tyson’s entire game plan fits into the current narrative of the season: the big-name winners at the merge working to knock out the lesser-threat winners who might otherwise clue into the fact that they need to make big moves to win. This season has entirely felt skittish in its approach to getting rid of prominent players in the pre-merge like Tyson, but his ability to socialize with others helps disarm these guarded players.

What I don’t like about Tyson’s chances of making a deep run is that he doesn’t have as many entrenched relationships as one would hope. Many of those on Dakal who wanted to get rid of him are still around, and the old allies that he could have gone deep with want to hide their potential bonds (aka the poker alliance). Tyson’s on shaky ground, but it doesn’t seem to be giving way just yet.
