Worst Twists in Survivor History – Number 7: Medallion of Power

  • First Appearance: Nicaragua (Season 21, 2010)

It’s always good to see Survivor try new twists. The show wouldn’t be able to stay fresh and it certainly wouldn’t be on the air for 20 years without these new attempted twists.

Sometimes, however, these twists fall flat and there might not be a better example of that than the Medallion of Power, which was introduced in Survivor: Nicaragua.

The concept of the Medallion of Power was that it would provide an advantage to a tribe during a challenge. Sounds fun, right? Well, the twist here was that once a team used the Medallion of Power, it’d then belong to the other team and they’d get a chance to use it.

The Medallion of Power was used twice through four challenges and both times it was used, the tribe in possession of it won said challenge. There was a lot wrong with the MOP and as a result, it was retired after the tribe swap on Day 12 and never heard from again. Thankfully.

Survivor tried something new, but realized quickly that the Medallion of Power wasn’t going to be the next Hidden Immunity Idol. So just like that, it was gone in a flash.
