Worst Twists in Survivor History – Number 9: Schoolyard Pick with Eliminations

  • First Appearance: Palau (Season 10, 2005)

Survivor had schoolyard picks prior to this adaption to it in Palau, but this version was one of the worst twists ever. How it worked was that after the 20 contestants had been living together for two days, Jeff Probst arrived to give them their first bout of news.

The man and woman who had each claimed the individual immunity necklace for themselves were in charge of beginning the schoolyard pick that would determine what the tribes looked like. The catch was that the two players not picked would be eliminated from the game.

While some could argue that the contestants had two days to get to know each other and form bonds, this just seemed like an easy way to immediately get two older people out of the game. While it didn’t go that way with an older woman and younger man not being selected, not having a chance to actually play the game is unfair and fortunately Survivor hasn’t been this harsh with a schoolyard pick since Palau.
