30. Survivor 41 (Season 41)

After a long hiatus, Survivor was back in the fall of 2021 with “Survivor 41”. The show had a new look when it returned after being off the air for over a year with the biggest change being that the contestants would only play for 26 days. This meant that they’d have to work harder to prove themselves to the fans, as all of the other winners (except for Chris Underwood, of course) played for 39 days.

Survivor 41 wasn’t great but it was entertaining. The new twist that forced the contestants to say weird sentences at challenges in order to eventually get a hidden immunity idol was pretty comical and the “quests” that the players would go on to potentially either earn an extra vote or lose their vote was also a fun new twist.

Some things that worked against the season, however, was the “shot in the dark” twist that carried over into the next season and the “do-or-die” twist that was basically choosing a box to determine if you were safe or not.

Another less-than-stellar aspect of Survivor 41 was the editing. Erika apparently played a great game, at least according to her 7-1 victory, but we barely saw any of it. It was nice to see a woman win again but Erika was largely ignored until the final few episodes and I’m still not sure I could tell you anything about Heather, who made it to the final four.

It was nice to have Survivor back but 41, especially when compared to season 42, felt like it could have been bigger and better.
