22. Vanuatu — Islands of Fire (Season 9)

Whenever the producers of the show decide to go with a twist for the second time, there’s an inherent risk in that. Like we talked about with Caramoan, there’s the chance that it simply doesn’t live up to the first time that the twist was used in terms of overall quality of the season. That was the fate of Vanuatu — Islands of Fire when the tribes were divided by gender for the second time.

Admittedly, there’s nothing that’s glaringly horrible about the ninth season of the show. It’s a pedestrian season that’s predictable at times and has it’s moments of drama and even excitement briefly. The most notable moments certainly come down the home stretch with Chris Daugherty having the biggest target on his back and still managing to stay in the game time and again.

That ultimately led to Daugherty being named the winner and Sole Survivor, which he deserved after he, well, survived as long as he did given the circumstances that were before him. While that may be the case, though, this wasn’t a special season by any stretch and another that should simply be listed as average.
