38. Worlds Apart (Season 30)
Though sometimes overrated in the game of Survivor, dominance in Immunity Challenges is always impressive on some level. While players like Ozzy, Malcolm Freberg (both returning for Game Changers) and even Joe Anglim are all known for their prowess in challenges, there might not be a more impressive run in the show’s history than that of the eventual winner of Survivor: Worlds Apart, Mike Holloway.
In the home stretch of the season, Mike was easily the biggest target remaining. He’d been the most dominant player of the season, both physically and strategically. Thus, he had a target on his back. No one ever had the chance to pull the voting trigger, though, because Holloway went on to win individual immunity five times in the last six challenges. And the one time he didn’t win, he so happened to have an idol to save himself at Tribal Council.
Mike’s performance in Worlds Apart might be one of the best we’ve ever seen from a winner. Even so, it didn’t make for great drama. With his immunity wins and a strong strategy, he methodically picked off his biggest threats to beat him. Though the “White Collar, Blue Collar, No Collar” twist had (and still has) potential, Holloway’s dominance made for a season that didn’t realize that promise.
