Worst Survivor Casts – Number 1: Ghost Island (Season 36)

Here we are, folks – The worst cast in Survivor history and it’s the bunch we were forced to watch in Ghost Island.

As Idoled Out mentions in his video (see the first slide), only six people on this cast were over the age of 30. The oldest person cast on this season was in their early 40s, which is just a huge miss by the casting department to only have young 20 somethings. That’s not good television.

On paper, the cast looked like a bunch of models and didn’t give us many average people, which was frustrating. The reason why the early season casts were so compelling was because they were people from all different walks of life with unique backgrounds from all over the country and that makes for an interesting season.

Having so many younger people on the show might make for more good looking people for the viewers to look at, but as we saw in Ghost Island, it doesn’t make for an intriguing cast at all. Nearly all of the air time went to Dom and Wendell and the cast seemed content with handing those two guys an easy trip to the end.

The season wasn’t helped by the interesting people going out pre-merge, but even still, production could have helped themselves there by casting more unique people and not just models or aspiring actors/actresses from southern California.

Ghost Island is considered a bad season for many reasons, but the cast and their lack of ability to do anything throughout the course of the season is its biggest flaw.

Survivor is bound to miss the mark with casting from time to time and one of the biggest problems with the Dark Age seasons was how bad casting was.

While a case could have been made for any of these seasons to be number one, I went with Ghost Island because of how young the majority of the cast was and how boring the post-merge players were.

There’s no reason why only six people on the season should be over the age of 30 and at the end of the day, we saw how badly this season turned out and the cast was a huge reason as to why.
