Most Invisible Survivor Contestants – – Number 5: Purple Kelly, Nicaragua (5)

Do you want to know why Survivor fans call those who are under edited victims of a “purple edit”? It’s because of Kelly Shinn in season 21, who was nicknamed Purple Kelly since there were two Kellys and she had purple in her hair. Production made a game of Purple Kelly’s edit in Nicaragua.

They were upset that she threw in the towel on Day 28, quitting the game along with Na’Onka (who oddly enough, had a HUGE edit). Production clearly didn’t like this, so they did everything they could to not give Purple Kelly any screen time.

The only reason she’s not No. 1 on here is because of the fact that she had four confessionals in her final episode and has a Survivor term named after her. She only had one confessional up until her final episode because again, production didn’t want her getting air time.

When she was given screen time, she was always made to sound stupid (“We get to milk our own milk.”) or the other contestants pointed out that she didn’t talk much. It was almost painful how dirty of an edit Kelly was given. Maybe it’s something with the name Kelly, as she’s the third Kelly to appear here.

But, because she was on screen a lot in her final episode, I couldn’t put Purple Kelly any higher than No. 5, even if she is the reason a “purple edit” is a thing. For more on the legend of Purple Kelly, check out Mario Lanza’s Funny 115 entry on her.
