70. Erik Reichenbach (Micronesia, Caramoan)
Unfortunately, the only thing Erik Reichenbach will be remembered for will be when he willingly gave up individual immunity to Natalie and was promptly voted out by the remaining members of the Black Widow Brigade. Prior to that, he was dominating in the challenges and seemed like such a nice guy.
Erik was the only fan from the original Fans vs Favorites season to remember for version 2.0 of that format where he finished in fifth place when he was medically evacuated.
As Phil Wood notes in the video, Erik giving up immunity allowed for the Black Widow Brigade to be looked at in such high regard. Without that move, their legacy probably isn’t anywhere close to the same.
69. Rick Devens (Edge of Extinction)
Rick Devens seems like a really nice guy so seeing him get voted off as early as he did was a bummer. He ended up winning his way back into the game thanks to the Edge of Extinction twist and nearly made it to the end.
The only thing that prevented him from making it to the end was Chris Underwood giving up his immunity necklace to face Devens in fire. Chris knew he wouldn’t win the million bucks if Devens made it to the end with him, so he had to make that move.
While Devens became extremely popular, the fact that he was voted out so early on forced me to root against him, which was unfortunate since he really seems like a wonderful person. The Edge of Extinction twist sucks.
