Survivor Season 41 week 5 preview
By Ricky Frech
Survivor Season 41 is well into the game at this point. As we enter the fifth week, we’ve seen tons of advantages, a blindside or two, and more drama than you might know what to do with. If this week’s preview is any indication, it doesn’t look like that’s slowing down.
That said, keep in mind that previews are often edited to trick the viewer. A good example is the preview for week two that made it look like Naseer Muttalif was in trouble based on Sydney Segal’s confessional, only for her to actually want to keep him around in the full episode. Don’t read too much into what happens in the preview, even if they might give us a few solid clues for what’s to come.
That being said, this week’s preview kicks off with Genie Chen hunting for an advantage. We actually see her pick it up, so we know she at least finds something. Now, will she be the first person to not use a Beware Advantage? It seems unlikely considering her tribe is down to just three people, but Genie has played a mostly passive game thus far.
There’s potential that she might try to slide this onto someone else to make them lose their vote. After all, she knows what the advantage said for Brad Reese. Maybe she’ll keep that in mind and make a play that most other cast members wouldn’t.
We then hear Danny McCray talking about the potential for a womens’ alliance. Sydney quickly says “whatever” to that in a confessional, though we’re thinking these two confessionals probably aren’t related. This feels much more like an editing trick than anything real.
We could be wrong, but we’ve seen Sydney and Danny being tight with each other and Deshawn Radden. We also know Erika and Heather don’t like Sydney, so this feels like an attempted swerve that won’t mean anything during the actual episode.
The last thing we see is Tiffany Seely saying she wants to go through Xander Hastings’ bag. Then, she says she wants to get him out. Honestly, with how close we likely are to the merge, that move makes sense from Tiff’s perspective. She’s going to want the challenge beasts out of the way as early as possible.
However, you do have to wonder if her alliance members Evvie Jagoda and Liana Wallace are as interested. They could be looking to Tiff’s sometimes erratic behavior and want to dump that before the merge if they get the chance.
No matter what, this looks like it’s shaping up to be another fun episode. Sure, we’re getting at least one more advantage added to the game, but the focus seems to be more on traditional Survivor gameplay. Hopefully, the show can continue the excellent trajectory it set last week.
