Best Survivor Winners No. 38: Vecepia Towery (Survivor Marquesas)
If you want to talk about bitterness on Survivor juries, it becomes more nuanced the further back you go into Survivor history. Vecepia Towery found peace and comfort in religion, especially when playing a game based on lying, cheating, and stealing.
Yet, she was criticized harshly for it on a jury of people who found it easy to lie, accusing her of a holier-than-thou attitude.
If anything, Vecepia should be remembered as a true game-changer. Her win represented plenty of firsts on Survivor, if not reality competition television history.
She was the first African-American to win the game, first African-American woman to win an immunity challenge, the first winner to ever win individual immunity multiple times, and the first African-American to win a reality show.
When it comes to her legacy, she did flip between alliances while staying under the radar. She’s stayed under the radar to this day, not making too big a splash in the Survivor community.
