3 players who can't win Survivor 48 after the tribe swap

The next phase of Survivor 48 has begun with the tribe switch, giving new life to several players and most likely extinguishing others' torches in the process.

Whenever a Survivor season is on the air, plenty of people try to decipher who the winner will be through a little thing called the edit. As explained on Screen Rant, an edit is "a pattern of content shown of a particular player." There's also the concept of a winner's edit, which is how the winner is shown to the audience throughout the season to explain their social and strategic gameplay.

Another tool that has been instrumental in helping viewers analyze who will be crowned the sole Survivor is Edgic, which is a mix of the words editing and logic and means analyzing the edit to predict the winner. This concept originated on the forum Survivor Sucks, and it is also, per Inside Survivor, "a useful tool for mapping a character's objective story arc throughout the season."

Edgic assigns a rating to a player depending on their visibility on the episode, whether they were portrayed positively or negatively, and their personality type. In other words, a number is given to a player based on their visibility, tone, and rating at the end of the episode. Usually, a winner has high numbers overall, great visibility, and a positive-leaning tone. Some examples include (spoilers!) J.T Thomas, Tina Wesson, Kim Spradlin, Maryanne Oketch, and Rachel LaMont.

In other instances, they are given a more villainous tone but still manage to get a positive edit, including Parvati Shallow, Sandra Diaz-Twine, and Todd Herzog. Other times, the winners are plainly invisible, and the audience is shocked by their win, as they weren't given the driver's role in the season. No winner is a better example of a purple edit than Natalie White.

It is important to mention that the long-time Survivor host Jeff Probst has discussed the so-called winner's edit, particularly on his podcast, On Fire with Jeff Probst. During an episode back in 2023, Probst mentioned there's no such thing as a winner's edit, as each episode is dedicated to telling a particular story within the game, and it doesn't mean that the person who has the focus is the one who will win.

Regardless, Edgic has been a helpful tool for determining who has the potential to win a season more often than not. Based on this current season's edit, especially following the tribe swipe, these players' chances of collecting the million-dollar check are incredibly slim. Somehow, if any of them miraculously won, they would probably be considered the Natalie White of the New Era.

Chrissy Sarnowsky

In terms of a purple edit, Chrissy has gotten it the worst so far, with only five confessionals in four episodes. Even Stephanie Berger, the first boot of the season, got six confessionals before her early departure.

Chrissy had a promising beginning, but so far, she's been too far under the radar. The only thing we know so far of Chrissy's game is that she was on the majority alliance on the OG Civa and is now on Civa 2.0 with Mitch, someone she initially didn't want to work with. Perhaps Chrissy will get another moment in the sun as she did on the premiere, but her winning chances are on a nosedive.

Star Toomey

Star is another unlikely player to win at this point. Star was at the bottom of her original tribe. No one wanted to help Star crack the code of her beware advantage, her rivalry with Eva Erickson was causing plenty of disruption, and to make matters worse, Star remained in the Lagi tribe with Eva of all people.

After the tribe switch, Eva is shown to be throwing Star's name under the bus to the other people on Lagi, complicating things further for Star. She's also only gotten six confessionals so far, so her point of view hasn't been relatively explored. Star could still get out of this pickle and create new bonds to further her game, but it's unlikely that Star will be crowned a winner if things continue to be the same.

Cedrek McFadden

The third person whose chances of being the winner have considerably dwindled is Cedrek, the colon and rectal surgeon of the season and an OG of the Vula tribe. With only 10 confessionals under his belt, Cedrek's game basically imploded when he decided to keep Saiounia Hughley over Justin Pioppi.

Sai now has her sights on Cedrek, even discussing targeting him with Bianca Roses instead of uniting with Cedrek and getting rid of the other pair in Civa, Chrissy, and Mitch. Cedrek is unaware of his fractured bond with Sai, and this will most likely be the reason for his downfall the minute he sets foot at tribal council.
