We’ve seen a huge amount of returning player seasons across Survivor’s 50 seasons, but none of them live up to the hype set by Survivor: Game Changers. One of the all-time most stacked casts of fan-favorites, this season reinforced the love of the game and the drive of certain castaways who we could watch play this game for the rest of our lives.
It didn’t just wow from a Survivor perspective, but it also made television history, sparking real-world conversations that are still relevant today.
So let’s dig into all the best of Survivor: Game Changers—the best returning player season in my book—with all the reasons why fans love this season (in no particular order). And just for the new Survivor fans, we’re leaving out any spoilers so you can decide if this is a season you want to dive into.

1. A season of big moves
Often referenced for its fast-paced gameplay and unpredictable nature, Survivor: Game Changers featured one of the most intense post-merge games in Survivor history. Fans who love watching players take massive risks loved this season because of how quickly alliances shifted, how voting blocks were used, and how the power dynamics changed so frequently, a player could be on both the top and the bottom of the game multiple times in a single episode.
2. Advantages as weapons
Survivor: Game Changers is filled with a historic amount of hidden advantages—reaching the true peak of idol gameplay. From the legacy advantage, extra votes, and an absurd amount of hidden immunity idols (played correctly!), players were forced to stay on their toes and anything could happen. In fact, one of the most iconic Tribal Councils in the show’s history happened because of insane idol play.
3. Social moments we can’t forget
While there were lots of social moves made strategically—sugar, anyone?—this season also featured some extraordinary human moments that reflected well on the show’s themes of motivation and not giving up despite the odds. Survivor has always been a social experiment, but we got to witness some incredible reminders of humanity in Survivor: Game Changers that other seasons simply cannot compare to.
4. The beginning of a new Final Tribal Council
For the first time in Survivor history, viewers were introduced to the “open forum” concept of Final Tribal Council which allowed jury members to more easily work off of each other instead of the previous format that let one juror speak at a time. This latest evolution of the game allowed for more nuanced discussions around who should win and why and it helped really showcase the best players at the end.
