It seems Boston Rob is becoming more and more selective when it comes to what reality shows he’s willing to do these days.
In late June, Boston Rob revealed that he was actually invited back to be a part of theSurvivor 50cast and was the one who turned down the gig. As he toldEntertainment Tonight,he decided to give his place to another player, saying his journey on the show is complete.
As hard as it was to hear that Boston Rob was invited to be a part ofSurvivor’s historic seasonand seems to have retired from the game, it wasn’t exactly surprising.Survivoris quite taxing on its players’ bodies and minds, and it also requires them to be away from their loved ones for several weeks without any contact. Boston Rob is now a parent of four young kids, so it’s understandable that he wouldn’t want to be away from them for a longer duration of time without the ability to contact them.
We get thatBoston Robis becoming more selective with his reality TV appearances, but it seems he’s being even more selective than we had anticipated.
Following his recent appearance on Peacock’sThe Traitors,it appears that ABC set its sights on theSurvivorlegend and attempted to get him on the forthcoming season ofDancing with the Stars.Unfortunately, it seems Boston Rob has no interest in taking to the ballroom and rejected ABC’s offer to compete on the long-running series.
"They approached Boston Rob [Mariano]. AfterThe Traitorshype he was another top name. They would've loved to have both him and Dylan Efron on the season, but Rob declined.DWTSisn't his style, and he has his own projects in the works he is focusing on,” asource revealed toThe Sun.
Again, as disappointing as it is to know that Boston Rob could have returned to our small screens this fall as a member ofDancing with the Starsseason 34, his decision to reject the offer isn’t too shocking. WhileDancing with the Starsmight not require its contestants to be isolated from their loved ones on an island, it does involve dancing – shocking, right? – and Boston Rob has a known dislike of dancing.
It would have been so fun to see Boston Rob step way outside his comfort zone to compete onDancing with the Stars, but he’s also a strategist. Boston Rob has a history of gravitating toward reality shows that are based on strategy, and there’s not much strategy to be had onDancing with the Starsas it all comes down to dancing.
While Boston Rob turned down the show, there is still a chance we could see him in theDancing with the Starsballroom, though. The Sunreports that ABC is still working to get Efron on the show. Should Efron indeed join the cast, we imagine Boston Rob would come out to support his friend and formerTraitorscostar from the audience. It might not be the same as getting to watch Rob compete, but we’d love to see him show up for Efron and get to see more of their bromance.
