And after dropping a new teaser video this afternoon, the image representing the accounts is a split view of purple and yellow buffs, doubling down on what we saw in thesneak peek trailerat the end ofSurvivor 50.
Not only that, but this new video gives usa lotmore information about what’s to come in the first episode. Specifically about how the tribes are going to be divided. Watch below and then keep scrolling to read our questions and predictions.
Now wealready predictedthat there were going to be two tribes—it wasn’t hard to do after the teaser trailer—but, the way those tribes are made up is being revealed as well…and it’s igniting a lot more questions than it's answering.
Not only do we hear the instructions from Rob Antonson, the castaway reading the production-created note about tribes, but they’re also explicitly written out as the caption of the video: “Find your name, grab your BUFF.”
The very first major twist of the game features a heavy hand by production.
21 players, 2 tribes, but it doesn’t seem like things are going to be left up to fate. The fact that the buffs are pre-organized by player means that production is choosing who will end up on a tribe and who won’t in the beginning.
And of course, we still don’t know what theactualtwist is going to be for the player left out, but we hear Cristian Chavez read out, “One of you will not begin the game with the others.” So for someone who was initially predicting a schoolyard pick or a luck-of-the-draw situation with one player getting the odd rock out, the fact that it seems the outside player was hand-chosen by production to be the one left out just sits funny with me.
I’m really hoping that what we see is not what we’ll get and that the twist—once officially revealed—has me jumping up and down screening on my couch, but based on the specific clues being dropped now, it doesn’t feel as exciting as we’d initially anticipated.
But I have full faith inSurvivorand the crew that puts it together both in Fiji and back in the editing room in Los Angeles. So whatever happens, there was a lot of thought and intention put into it in order to kick off the open era the right way. The only thing that could truly disappoint me this season is if an hourglass shows up and we find out they didn’t learn anything fromSurvivor 41.
