Chrissy Hofbeck's second run in Survivor was a rollercoaster, to say the least. From being continuously targeted in her original tribe to her old-school alliance imploding during the early merge, Hofbeck never quite seemed to find her footing.
For starters, Hofbeck was placed on the Kalo tribe alongside Dee Valladares, Kamilla Karthigesu, Tiffany Nicole Ervin, Benjamin “Coach” Wade, Charlie Davis, Mike White, and Jonathan Young. Hofbeck immediately gravitated towards Wade and Young, who favored a more old-school type of gameplay, or as Hofbeck referenced during the season, “they were cut from the same cloth.”
While the audience didn’t get to see much from the OG Kalo tribe as they kept winning challenges, from past eliminated players’ exit press, Hofbeck would’ve been eliminated had Kalo gone to an early Tribal Council, as Hofbeck didn’t mesh with the other women, and Davis and White, who were in the middle between the two alliances, would’ve likely joined in on Hofbeck’s elimination. Fortunately for Hofbeck, she was able to reach the tribe swap and later the merge unscathed.

However, Hofbeck’s time in the game was fast approaching a close, especially after Survivor 50’s latest twist called Twisted Fates, which made the players divide themselves into pairs and metaphorically link their game fates to each other. This twist had already appeared in the international Survivor season, Survivor South Africa: Immunity Island, but as Chrissy revealed during an exit interview, none of them knew about it, which led them to divide themselves randomly without prior knowledge of what the twist entailed.
Hofbeck then paired up with the Dragon Slayer and close ally, Coach Wade, which proved to be a fatal mistake, as the pair became an immediate target for the opposing alliance, as they now could eliminate two foes in one go. After losing immunity and with Rick Devens faking having an immunity idol at Tribal, Hofbeck and Wade were promptly and almost unanimously eliminated, making them the second and third jury members.

In an interview with Sharon Tharp for The Exclusive, Hofbeck revealed another factor that sealed her and Wade’s fates: Hofbeck kept pushing to eliminate Rizo Velovic and, as collateral damage, Emily Flippen. Once Cirie Fields, who hilariously expressed that she was married to Velovic and Ozzy Lusth in the game, Hofbeck was doomed, as Fields led the vote against them.
Sharp asked Hofbeck why she and Velovic were never able to see eye to eye. Hofbeck replied that one of the main reasons was basically Velovic’s ungratefulness. Hofbeck explained that at the beginning of the merge, Velovic got sick, and several people chipped in to help, only for Velovic to never even thank them later.
In addition, according to Hofbeck, Velovic repeatedly used the “f” word, always grandly talked about himself as “the man, the myth, the legend,” and, to top it all off, their first conversation was Velovic questioning her trust in him, which all rubbed Hofbeck the wrong way.
In another interview with Mike Bloom for Parade, Hofbeck also brought up Velovic’s lack of work ethic around camp as a reason for her wanting him out.

Lastly, when talking about pregaming, Hofbeck told Sharp that the only people she contacted before going to Fiji to play Survivor 50 were Genevieve Mushaluk and Jonathan Young, as they were the only ones who hadn’t played with anyone else prior to this season. Also, Hofbeck said that everyone pregamed, as is the case in returning players' seasons, which is why she doesn’t get that, for instance, Kamilla Karthigesu, has brought up the infamous “Zoom alliance” to make it a thing that influenced the season.
As for a third Survivor run, Hofbeck shuts it down, saying that chapter in her life is officially closed, and she feels grateful to have been able to do it twice.
