The “gangster in an Oprah suit” has struck again in more ways than one. Legendary five-time Survivor US player and Australian Survivor: Australia v The World finalist Cirie Fields demonstrates why she is lethal and why all people who try to get her out, get voted out instead. During episode 11 of Survivor 50, Fields was put through the wringer. Firstly, she was unable to win the individual immunity challenge, which was followed by ally Tiffany Ervin losing her immunity due to a technicality.
Then, Survivor’s host Jeff Probst announced that all players remaining (besides Jonathan Young, who ended up with the above-mentioned immunity) would be split into two random groups of four. Fields and Ervin ended up with Rick Devens and Emily Flippen, the latter two of whom were gunning after Fields.

Fields’ closest allies and Survivor “husbands” (Ozzy Lusth and Rizo Velovic) ended up in the other group alongside Aubry Bracco and Joe Hunter. Young also had the advantage of participating in both upcoming Tribal Councils and voting in each. Suffice it to say, these were not optimal conditions for Fields whatsoever.
To make the situation even worse, Devens had an immunity idol, which he and Flippen planned to use against Fields to get the majority of votes within their group. Fields and Ervin needed Young’s vote and a Hail Mary to survive the oncoming slaughter if they wanted to get to the Final Seven.
However, if there’s one person within the Survivor world who could get out of this horrifying situation, it's none other than Fields herself, as she had a last card up her sleeve: the extra vote advantage, which her ally Lusth had given to her earlier in the season. Fields wouldn't let her guard down yet, though, because this advantage has a tricky history.
Introduced to Survivor: Worlds Apart, the extra vote advantage is pretty self-explanatory: its holder gets an extra vote at Tribal Council when its played. While simple in theory, it has a low success rate for its intended purpose, as it has continuously backfired on players or been used when not necessary. But now, the curse on its track record has finally been lifted.

Fields sensed something was awry while at camp when she noticed Flippen and Devens being shifty, and while she knew she had Ervin's vote in her favor, Fields also knew the target would be on her, especially if Devens used his idol on himself. At Tribal Council, Fields thankfully decided to use her advantage against Flippen, causing a tie between them.
At the revote, her advantage was crucial for breaking that said tie, and Flippen was eliminated in a 4-2 vote. Consequently, Fields has now become the first person in Survivor US history to successfully use the extra vote advantage to save herself from elimination. Talk about Survivor prowess!
After this episode, Fields is in a dangerous situation, as she has not only reiterated how dangerous she is but has also, unfortunately, lost ally Lusth at the second Tribal Council of episode 11, leaving her with only Velovic and Ervin as her closest allies. Nevertheless, fans of Cirie Fields (including myself) shouldn't despair yet, as Fields could still surprise us and finally reach that coveted Final Tribal Council spot.
I, for one, would never bet against Cirie Fields. I also can't wait to see how her Survivor 50 journey will ultimately unfold during the last couple of weeks of the season.
