It’s been over three months since the finale ofSurvivor 50aired and we got the conclusion of the new era as well as a sneak peek at the open era. And no, I don’t mean the video sneak peek ofSurvivor 51at the end of the live finale. I’m talking about the gameplay elements that were incorporated into the anniversary season by production in anticipation of the upcoming open era.
Of course, when we first watched the season, we had no idea that the new era was ending or that something called the “open era” was about to begin. But, a new era ofSurvivorwas actually unfolding right under our noses. Which means that based on patterns and examples, we might be able to predict how theSurvivor 51playersapproach their own elimination order—for as much as they can control it.

What do all these players have in common?
The first seven people who left the game were all highly social players at the start of theirSurvivorcareers. They built bonds that helped them move further in the game even when viewers at home were shocked to see them still on the island. In fact, all but one of these players made it to the Final Three at least once beforeSurvivor 50. They’re the kinds of players who, should they make the merge, have the power to sway allies to switch sides and cause some chaos for the person building the hierarchy.

Why did these players become threats once merged?
All these players are numbers people. They know how to strategically control the numbers around them and create cushions for their own safety by ensuring the target is being put on someone else other than themself. Many of them were responsible for the “early game eliminations” which meant the castaways around them had to start cutting them from the game to keep them from having too much power at the end of the game, potentially making it to Final Tribal Council.

How did these players being on the jury instead of the Final Three change the game?
Now we have the chaos group. The players who wereplayingand playinghardin order to keep themselves in the game. Almost everyone on this list either held an advantage or betrayed an ally in order to further themselves in the game and everyone on this list had a resume should they make it to the end.
And by the timeAubry Braccohad gained some underdog control of the game, she knew that she could not win against any of the people on the above list. Or at least, they would have caused the jury to split their votes and potentially give us athird place finisheras the Sole Survivor.
But what does this mean forSurvivor 51and the open era? The social players who are obvious that they are social players are going to be the biggest threats in the game. And as we revert back to OG inputs ofSurvivor, it’s very possible that the strategic minds are going to be the ones controlling most of the game. That means social players and physical players are going to be targeted early and fast.
It’s highly likely that we’re going to see strategists hiding in the shadows of the game with more control than anyone could expect. The players who come out the gate playing are going to be in the most trouble as season 51 kicks off.
