Jeff Probst spills the truth about the Survivor supplies fans never see

We all knew Survivor players got a little extra help with the elements, but Jeff Probst shared more information in a new episode of his podcast.
“The Devil’s Shoes” – A major shakeup hits the game when two tribes turn to three. New tribe members size each other up, but with only four players on each tribe, there is not much room to hide. Then, heat and exhaustion take a major toll on one castaway, on SURVIVOR, Wednesday, Oct. 29. Pictured (L-R): Jeff Probst. Photo: Robert Voets/CBS ©2025 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

As he does so often, Jeff Probst peeled back the curtain a little bit further about the parts of Survivor that fans don't get to seen very often. This time, Probst shared two very important supplies that players are given to help them battle the elements of Fiji.

On a new episode of the On Fire with Jeff Probst podcast, Jay Wolff read fan question for Probst to answer. To sum it up, the question was basically, do players get sunscreen and bug spray because, from viewer's perspectives, they don't see a lot of bad sunburns during gameplay.

"Yes, they get sunscreen and people do get sunburns, especially the first few days," Probst said. "I've seen a few pretty decent ones and, and if they're bad, that can linger and it can become a pain because a lot of times the top of the shoulder gets burned and then suddenly you're carrying something or somebody standing on your shoulders to get them up a big wall. And all of a sudden, that's a problem.”

We've definitely seen players battle sunburns in the past. I remember, over the year, some pretty bad sunburns. On the podcast, co-host Jeremy Collins described one of Kelly Wentworth's horrible sunburns on Survivor: Cambodia.

Probst also revealed that the players do get bug spray, but whether it helps much is still a question depending on the person.

"They do get bug spray as well, which Jeremy can talk to you because it's pretty simple out there. The bugs either like you, in which case this is going to be a long 26 days, or they don't like you, in which case it's not really a bother. I'm very lucky that they don't like me.”

The bug spray is the interesting one because we've seen people get eaten alive, basically, over the course of the 49 seasons of Survivor. I don't know how these players handle the bugs like they have to. Even with bug spray, you can see the raised bumps on a lot of these players throughout the season.

Perhaps, Survivor will consider a snake spray as well after the traumatic events of Survivor 49.

Survivor players also get other supplies, too

While Probst didn't talk about it on the podcast, we know that, in addition to their personal items, including clothes and shoes, the players also get their bag, water bottle, flint, and other camp supplies that they either gain at the start of the game or earn in challenges.

After the Survivor 49 premiere, many fans learned that the players get a daily multivitamins and electrolytes, which do not go down so well on a completely empty stomach. Just ask Nicole Mazullo!

In addition, Survivor players gets their medication, painkillers, bandages, medical supplies, and hygiene products as needed.

And, those are just the things we largely don't see. Fans are very well aware of the other food and supplies they get for winning challenges, including live chickens, fishing gear, Applebee's Bourbon Street Mushroom Swiss burger, and more.
