One of the most memorable moments fromSurvivor 51’spremiere episode was Lewis Kelly volunteering to send himself to Exile Island without realizing he’d be stuck there in isolation for the first three days of the game.
Now, the early fan favorite is turning to Instagram to answer some burning questions about his experience on Exile Island since all we really got to see at home was him arriving and him attempting to secure a hidden immunity idol during what appeared to be an impossible task.

How long was Lewis given to complete his task?
While it’s hard to perfectly read an hourglass, Lewis takes a guess at how long he was hacking away at the mast to knock down the hidden immunity idolJeff Probstrevealed was at the top.
“I think it was about 30 or 40 minutes, but I genuinely have no idea,” he reveals. Fans at home were guessing an hour as that’s become a standard for journeys like this. But, hey! It’s the open era and if permanent uncertainty is the name of the game, then we can never assume anything based on what’s happened in the past.
Seeing Lewis go full-on at that mast, though was probably one of the hardest we’ve seen aSurvivorplayer attack a journey in recent years. This was much more like the old school risk/reward games that don’t just risk gameplay devices like votes and advantages. Lewis had to risk his energy and physical being in order to go at that challenge.
And while he didn’t secure the idol, I think that’s for the best as he’ll have more trust leverage when re-entering the game.

What did Lewis do to occupy his time on Exile Island?
This is a question I’ve always wondered. In the past, you’d often see players either being completely miserable onExile Island, looking for the idol, or simply meditating. But, even if someone did all those things, it’d probably only take up a couple of hours maximum. But by the time Jeff showed up, it had already been 30 hours for Lewis and his time wouldn’t be up for at least another day.
“I idol hunted, I made fake idols, I, like, got up to so much mischief,” he shares, excitedly. All things we hope to see come to fruition at the beginning of episode 2, “Weaponized Honesty.” If he wants to be this season’s mischief-maker, then I can’t wait to see him get back in the game and go for the chaotic gold medal with the rest of the players.
Another thing he revealed about what we didn’t see on Exile Island was how he got there. The note the players read said the person chosen would, “follow the path up and over to the other side of the island.” And while that definitely doesn’t seem like it’s just around the corner, Lewis reveals he ended up on a 2-hour hike in the sweltering hot Fiji heat. He even goes as far as to say that the hardest part about Exile Island was the hike to Exile Island.

What did Lewis eat while on Exile Island?
“Nothing,” he says, easily, not even having to think about it. “Yeah, nothing.”
At this point in the game, he says he’s been playingSurvivorfor three days and hasn’t had a single thing to eat. Not that either of the tribes have much to share, but whenLewis re-enters the gamethis episode, hopefully he gets a little something in his stomach.
He was also extremely dehydrated and revealed that after the time was up for the challenge, he basically passed out on the beach and just stayed there for the next day trying to get his body back to a resting state. We even saw him vomiting during the task, getting physically sicker and sicker as he pushed to get that hidden immunity idol.
