What a wild tribal council in Survivor 50 episode 8, "Double the Fun, Double the Demise!" It was a night full of chaos, comedy, and intensity. If it weren’t for a trick up Rick Devens' sleeve, Aubry Bracco and Rick might have been sent to join Dee Valladares as the second and third jury members of the season.

Near the beginning of episode 8, the Survivor 50 players received a note at camp that commanded them to split into pairs. Later at the challenge, Jeff announced a twist that is a first in Survivor history. In the challenge, the players would compete as a pair and win immunity or lose as a pair. But, they would also be voted out as a pair. Along with that twist, Shot in the Dark and immunity idols also count towards the pair.

During the challenge, there were six pairs that participated (Coach and Chrissy, Joe and Tiffany, Emily and Rizzo, Jonathan and Christian, Ozzy and Stephanie, and Rick and Aubry). The first three pairs who won the first half of the challenge moved on for a chance to win immunity. These pairs consisted of Joe and Tiffany, Ozzy and Stephanie, and Rick and Aubry. Joe and Tiffany, who bested the rest and won double immunity for Tribal Council. That's where things went wild!

Rick Devens perfectly "plays" his hidden idol trick at Tribal Council

To rewind a few episodes, in episode 2, Rick, with the help of Christian Hubicki, hid a fake immunity idol in the rocks of the tribal council firepit. It took five episodes' worth of waiting, but we finally got to see the idol come into play and watch the chaos unfold as Rick told the tribe that he received a clue for a hidden immunity idol and grabbed it from the fire pit, sending the assumption to the tribe that he is going to use it to save him and Aubry.

While the tribe frantically scattered into whispers, it was obvious that Rick and Aubry were likely the pair being voted out, or at least on the chopping block. When it came down to using the “immunity idol” before the votes were read, Rick did not end up using it.

What made this believable for the other members of the tribe? Rick Devens has a history of finding idols. Rick is known for playing the most hidden immunity idols in a single season, with four idols found during his season of Edge of Extinction, which also included him famously creating fake idols, similar to the one we have just witnessed on Survivor 50. He already claimed credit for a Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol this season, as well.

Ultimately, the fake idol might have just been what gave Aubry and Rick another day in the game, as a majority of the votes swayed to Coach and Chrissy. They were voted out 12th and 13th in Survivor 50.

Now, we'll have to wait and see just what everyone thought of Devens' immunity idol fakeout in the next episode of Survivor 50!
