Well, the rumours were true after all, and legendary two-time Survivor player Rob Cesternino will officially return to our screens. After his last TV appearance over fifteen years ago, Rob is coming back, but it won't be for Survivor 50, but rather for the fourth season of Peacock's hit show, The Traitors.
For months, there was talk that the Rob Has a Podcast (RHAP) creator would make a comeback to television, and fans naturally assumed it would be for the upcoming Survivor 50 season. However, on May 28th, 2025, Survivor host Jeff Probst released the official Survivor 50 cast, and there was no mention of Rob. Later, Rob revealed on his Patreon account that, although he was contacted by Survivor production in 2024, he was ultimately cut from the roster in March 2025.
Rob confessed to his wife, Nicole Cesternino, on their shared Patreon talk that he would have played had the Survivor production chosen him. Still, Rob ultimately felt relief as well, as his Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) would have stopped him from doing his job for RHAP. This decision, alongside the cutting of other notable players such as Jerri Manthey, Jesse Lopez, and Carolyn Wiger, distraught fans, as they were expecting to see an iconic player like Rob over other more questionable casting choices.
Regardless, Rob's fans were brought back to life on June 13th, 2025, as the cast for the fourth season of The Traitors was released, and lo and behold, Rob is amongst them. For those unfamiliar, the format for The Traitors is a mix of Mafia and Clue, where a group of contestants picked to be "Traitors" must keep their identity under wraps from the others as they work together to get rid of the others. Simultaneously, the other group is the "Faithfuls," whose job is to identify the traitors and eliminate them to claim the final prize.
Other Survivor players have done fairly well on The Traitors, including Cirie Fields and Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick on season 1; Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine on season 2, and Rob "Boston Rob" Mariano, Tony Vlachos, Jeremy Collins, and Carolyn Wiger on season 3. For season 4, alongside Rob, Survivor winners Natalie Anderson and Yamil "Yam Yam" Arocho will also appear.
Additionally, during a Patreon episode titled "My Summer Travel Plans," Rob exclusively revealed to his wife that, in the same week he was cut from Survivor 50, he was contacted to play in The Traitors.
"I couldn't have been more excited," Rob said as he added he methodically studied The Traitors to prepare.
Rob also clarified any misleading people might have had when it came to assuming he would leave RHAP during this ongoing June:
"I thought it would happen also [playing Survivor 50], and that's why I never would've wanted to mislead you all or some of you if I didn't have anything else in my back pocket. So, this is the surprise!"
Furthermore, Nicole revealed that she was trying to teach Rob how to lie, as Rob struggles to do it convincingly. Rob agreed and exteriorised that he was hoping to be a "Faithful" as he would feel more comfortable playing himself.
Rob lastly disclosed that he didn't join other journalists for the Survivor 50 press in Fiji before the season aired, as he would be leaving for Scotland around the same time, while also hoping his decision to film this other show wouldn't impact too much his relationship with the Survivor production, as the latter is well known for not taking well their players being on different shows.
"I'm hoping that one day I still can get out to Fiji, at least as an interviewer," Rob quipped.
