Sierra Wright became the first jury member of Survivor 47, and she has become iconic for her trademark glares while walking into each tribal council. However, she has now revealed that she is not as angry as how she appears on television.
Sierra's final days
After the merge, her strong relationship with Sam Phalen made them a target. Tribe members from Gata and Lavo initially united to target Tuku, who had the most members. However, Caroline (with the help of Andy) managed to rally the numbers to focus the attention on Sam and Sierra.
Every vote cast (other than Sierra's) was against either Sam or Sierra and after a revote, Sierra was voted out and became the first member of this season's jury.
Sierra's iconic glare
In every episode since then, Sierra has been staring daggers at the remaining tribe members at every tribal council. Since jury members do not get to interact with the remaining tribemates, this is their only way to send a message.
Why was Sierra looking so angry? She took to Twitter/X to address the issue.
Her expression clearly left an impression on Solomon 'Sol' Yi, who was the second member of the jury. They continued the trend and have been scowling at every tribal council since.
Clearly, Sierra is not as mean-spirited as her facial expression might indicate. She also dropped this nugget about what life on Ponderosa was like with the current jury members of Sol, Gabe Ortis and Kyle Ostwald.
While replying to a user about life on Ponderosa, she replied "I was patiently waiting for one of my girls to come back… but we had SO much fun."
Her initial anger faded
Sierra did admit that when she was just voted out, she was livid. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she explained her emotions after being eliminated.
"So initially, I was pissed. I'm just purely pissed, angry, frustrated. And then when I walk off, it just hits you. You're walking down that platform and you're like, 'Holy s***, I'm out of the game of Survivor.' And I felt like my game just got going."
While getting caught off-guard, she eventually figured out that it was Andy Rueda who orchestrated the blindside.
"It hurt. It was hurtful. But you have to respect it. I respect his game. Looking back on it, of course you’re like, ‘Damn it.’ I was pissed and you could see it. And then I got emotional in my final words. But, yeah, it’s pretty hurtful where you felt like you spent so much time building this relationship. It hurts when you’re on the other side of it."
Sierra's boyfriend reaction to relationship with Sam
While Sierra and Sam had a strong bond in the game, she insisted that there was no romantic feelings involved.
It was a recurring theme in the season, and Sam and Sierra consistently worked to dispel the rumors of them dating to reduce their threat level. She called Sam 'a brother and like a childhood friend'. She also explained that it was hard for her boyfriend to experience these rumors.
"It was really challenging for him to watch each week. Of course, I don’t think the edit made it so, like, kind of take that route. But for Justin to just sit back and have to watch it and hearing the other tribes say it. I mean, Kyle and Rome at the journey, that was like Day Three and they’re saying, ‘Sam and Sierra are a couple. Are they dating?’ I’m like, what are we in second grade? It was just such a joke to us."
