Survivor 50's Charlie Davis still seems quite bitter about what happened with Maria Shrime Gonzalez

Charlie is not interested in working with Rizo after a classic misunderstanding.

Charlie Davis of Survivor 46 was one of the players I was happy to see on the Survivor 50 cast. As you'll remember, Charlie finished runner-up to Kenzie Petty in a 5-3 vote at Final Tribal Council.

Well, based on the latest episode of Survivor 50, it still seems like Charlie is still quite bitter about what happened with Maria Shrime Gonzalez, his longtime ally who voted for Kenzie and was basically the deciding vote that cost Charlie $1 million and the win.

What happened with Charlie and Maria on Survivor 46

Throughout Survivor 46, Charlie and Maria were in lockstep since the first few days in the game. Most of the edit from that season's strategy revealed just how influential Charlie and Maria were in the game. It looked like, for a long time, that one of them would be the winner.

The duo basically decided, as the game continued, that they would have to take each other out to win the season. Well, that's kind of how it played out. Maria tried to take a shot at Charlie and missed. Instead, the group voted out Q Burdette, who is also playing Survivor 50 right now with Charlie, and Maria was voted out next.

Heading into Final Tribal Council, it looked like Charlie was going to win against Kenzie and Ben Katzman. Instead, Maria, who may have had some sway with the jury, voted for Kenzie, and Charlie lost.

As of November 2024, which was a full year and change after everything happened, Charlie revealed that he and Maria had not talked about the situation.

Here's what Charlie revealed on the On Fire with Jeff Prosbt podcast:

"So, yeah, Maria and I, we haven't spoken since our season aired," Charlie said. "It hasn't been all that long. It's only been a few months. And, you know, I don't know what that relationship holds in the future."

Clearly, there were still some open wounds there, and it's unclear, as of the filming if Survivor 50 in June 2025, if Charlie and Maria have hashed it out. Now, it's possibly going to dictate Charlie's gameplay moving forward.

Charlie seems reluctant to work with Rizo Velovic after his big Survivor 49 reveal

After the tribe swap in episode 3, Charlie ended up on the new Cila tribe. On the outside looking in, Charlie and Rizo seem like they would be a good pair together. They think about the game in a similar way, and they could have formed a good partnership. Strong emphasis on "could."

As the tribe gets to know each other, Rizo reveals that his bestie from Survivor 49 was Sophi Balerdi, but that he actually voted for Savannah Louie to win. Rizo didn't elaborate that he and Savannah were No. 1 allies all season. He just revealed who he voted for and who his top friend was in the season.

But, that did not sit well with Charlie. After learning that Rizo had basically "betrayed" his ally, Charlie was ready to vote him off on the spot.

Look, I'm no therapist or psychologist, but it really seems like Charlie has some issues after what happened to him with Maria. And, hey, I can't blame him. That was a very weird situation, but it's clear that not every relationship ends in betrayal. Hopefully, Charlie is able to believe that and achieve that in Survivor 50.

If he doesn't, he'll probably get voted out long before Final Tribal Council in Survivor 50.

The funniest part is that Charlie is wrong in his interpretation about what Rizo said. Rizo probably doesn't want everyone to know that he worked hand-in-hand with Savannah all of Survivor 49 even if she's not in the game anymore, but now, he's getting targeted for something that is clearly a misunderstanding.
