Tonight very well might be the most anticipated episode of the season. With the way Vatu left Tribal Council last week, it’s clear a new rivalry may be blooming between Ozzy Lusth and Christian Hubicki. That plus the Kalo rivalry of Aubry Bracco vs. Genevieve Mushaluk as well as the full on nemesis status Charlie Davis dropped on Rizo Velovic over at Cila, things are getting heated on Survivor 50.

It seems episode 5 is gearing up to heavily hit the gameplay itch fans were missing in episode 4. With a double elimination coming up, there’s little to no likelihood that we’ll get a 30 minute reward sequence this week.

Tantrums and tidal waves

Returning from Tribal Council, Ozzy begins pacing and talking, confused about the reason why his tribe chose to vote out Mike White. Christian takes full blame for leaving him out the vote, which leaves Ozzy open to still working with Emily Flippen—who he now realizes was trying to give him signs before Tribal Council. Ending with the decision to get rid of Christian.

The next morning, Ozzy meditates and approaches Christian, apologizing for blowing up at him. They hug it out and agree to move forward. But Ozzy is still holding onto the fact that Christian betrayed his trust and needs to get taken out. Ozzy then approaches Stephenie La Grossa Kendrick and tries to convince her that Christian is dangerous. Stephenie, knowing that Ozzy has an idol, decides to keep him close, but knows she has the ability to move with whoever she wants, ultimately.

Over at Cila, Jonathan Young and the other original Kalo members are feeling out who they should put on the bottom as the majority. He fears Rizo the most, but like Rick Devens and approaches him about working together. Jonathan, Charlie, and Dee Valladares connect and say Rizo would be the next to go, but Dee doesn’t like that plan.

Dee hangs out with Rizo on the hammocks to tell him that they need to work together because he’s unknown so people will come for him and people will come for her because she’s the last winner remaining. In exchange for her wanting to work with him, he tells her about how the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idols work and she’s willing to work with him to make a move.

Coach and Aubry 4.0

Coach Wade shares that he’s approaching Survivor 50 differently and is no longer the Dragon Slayer, but now the “Tide Walker.” He brings Joe Hunter in as his no.1 and gives him the nickname of “Stone Bell Monk” while Colby Donaldson, his other ally, gets the nickname of “Oak Bound Warrier.” Coach plans to go to the end with the two men, with the assistance of Chrissy Hofbeck.

Aubry is trying to be chill with Genevieve, but it’s clear Geneiveve refuses to give Aubry the time of day. So she approaches Coach about working together. Getting approaches, makes Coach start feeling a little cocky and he starts feeling more “himself” and the “Dragon Slayer” begins to come back out.

Billie Eilish causing chaos

Charlie approaches Rizo in the middle of the night about the BIllie Eilish Boomerang Idol, asking who else he told. Rizo says he told Dee and asks if Charlie told anyone else. Charlie makes up a story about Jonathan approaching him after talking to Rizo, suspecting the existence of an idol, so Charlie told him. Rizo knows this is a lie, so he tells Dee—and divulges that he has the idol—and they decide to bring in Cirie Fields to work with the two of them and Kamilla Karthigesu to get out Charlie.

Only one immunity winner

At the immunity challenge, host Jeff Probst declares that only the first tribe to finish will secure immunity. The other two tribes will both attend Tribal Council and each vote someone out.

In a relay race-style challenge with one of the most physically demanding starting tasks, Cila and Vatu are tight in first with Kalo right behind them. Ozzy and Jonathan are pushing hard, but Joe is visibly struggling. Cila takes the lead with Vatu close behind, but Tiffany Ervin makes up a lot of time and gets Kalo back in the challenge.

Vatu takes the lead, but Cila and Kalo are right behind them with Coach forging ahead for Kalo, securing them the lead. Tiffany has already landed a few sandbags in the final portion of the challenge by the time Vatu and Cila start throwing. All three tribes are nearly neck-in-neck, but Joe lands the final sandbag and helps win immunity for Kalo.

Cila and Vatu will both attend Tribal Council. Jeff keeps Vatu’s flint and takes Cila’s flint, sending them both back to their camps.

Operation(s): Bad Blood

Back at Cila, Rizo has already gathered Dee and Cirie to join his team against Charlie and now he just needs to enlist Kamilla. He gets her over to the hammock and tells her that Kyle Fraser, before he left the game, told Rizo to work with Kamilla. It’s a total lie, but he still tells her about Billie Eilish Boomerang Idols before Charlie gets a chance, later in the day, which leaves Kamilla wondering who she should work with.

When Vatu returns, Christian and Emily determine the best plan for the two of them along with Stephenie and Ozzy to vote out Angelina, who they can’t trust after voting out her closest ally. But Ozzy and Stephenie of course, are gunning to blindside Christian. Ozzy fears Christian is plotting, so he needs assurance that he’s not and asks for his shot in the dark in exchange for his trust.

Christian is absolutely gobsmacked by this request and doesn’t see this as a request for trust, but fears it’s more of a chance to disarm him so Ozzy can take Christian out.

Ozzy pulls Emily aside and has a serious conversation with her about working with her moving forward, not her and Christian—alluding to wanting to vote out Christian. He also grabs Angelina to mention he and Stephenie want Christian out.

But Emily tells Christian that Ozzy wants him out, and Christian is so annoyed by this. So Christian gives Ozzy his shot in the dark as a sign of trust. Now Ozzy trusts Christian more, but also acknowledges that he’s now vulnerable and could get taken out easily.

At Cila, Rizo tells Cirie—wanting to solidify their relationship—that he has the idol. Cirie, in return, tells Rizo about the extra vote she got from Ozzy. The two are officially locked in to the end. But then Rizo continues to go around camp and brag about how well he did on his season, which makes Kamilla unsure about whether or not she would work with Rizo—who’s so outwardly vocal about his plans, but she can’t tell if he’s lying—or Charlie—who keeps his cards to his chest until the last second.

Who was voted out of Survivor 50 episode 5?

Vatu is the first to attend Tribal Council—maybe because they know how it works?—and it’s such familiar territory that Jeff is literally doing impressions of castaways to entertain the tribe. But even with the light-heartedness, they discuss the weight of last week’s vote, but it doesn’t impact this week’s decision as the four come together to vote out Angelina.

Cila arrives, with many of the players overwhelmed by how grand Tribal Council is. The tribe talks about how scary it is to play against legends, but also how it can be scary to play with an unknown player. Not only that, but also the difference between being a returning player and being a returning player who hasn’t watched their own season. And all of those perspectives are taken into account as they vote out Charlie.

Next Time on Survivor…

We’re now down to our final 17 players, and with the merge historically happening at episode 6 in the new era, we might be getting our biggest group of merged players to date—unless another twist occurs before then, sending more than one person packing. We’ll find out next Wednesday, April 1 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+ when Survivor 50 returns.
