After an unfortunately lackluster episode 4, the first season of the open era feels like it might be reaching a plateau that’s making fans nervous. But considering the first three episodes of Survivor 51 had us on the edge of our seats, I’m staying hopeful that we’re getting back on track with episode 5, “Not Here to Get a Pedicure.”
And right off the bat, I just have a vibe that Eric Macksoud is going to have something to do with the reason for the episode’s title. I can’t explain why, but I feel like we’re gonna get that quote from someone on the new Dina tribe after Eric uses sand to exfoliate his feet or something.
Whether or not that actually happens, there is one major moment we know is coming up thanks to the new description for episode 5:
“This week’s Immunity Challenge comes with double jeopardy when two tribes face tribal council. The Open Era continues its promise when one player receives a never-before-seen advantage. Then, two tribal councils deliver high drama – with tears and a shocking standoff, on SURVIVOR…”

Based on that and the “Next Time on Survivor” preview we got at the end of episode 4, I feel like we might see two members of the Helicopter Alliance go head-to-head, specifically Angelica “Jelly” Loblack and Devin Way.
Will the Helicopter Alliance be broken up for good in Survivor 51 episode 5, “Not Here to Get a Pedicure?”
The game definitely feels like another shake up is coming as Jeff Probst announces only one tribe will be winning immunity this week with the other two both attending Tribal Council. And based on the language of that phrase, I was really hoping we would get another open era twist on a classic moment and we’d see two of the three tribes attend one single Tribal Council, having to vote together despite not being together at camp to strategize.
But based on the episode description, it looks like we’re getting two individual Tribal Councils, though both promise to deliver.
And, of course, if only one tribe is winning immunity, it’s sure as heck not going to be Savu with only four players, all of whom must compete against four players hand selected from the other tribes based on strength. But that’s just the way the cookie crumbles when you have three tribes. Things become predictable.

What I’d really love to see—because the first three episodes got me so hyped up for twists on classic moments that I need more of them, Jeff!—is Savu voting out someone, getting down to three, then returning to their beach immediately followed by one of the six person tribes going to Tribal Council, voting someone out to get down to five and then being told they need to head over to Savu beach as they’re merged back into two tribes.
That would be the magic of Survivor, in my opinion. The first three episodes kept me on my toes. Don’t stop now! I’m ready for more permanent uncertainty!
Watch to find out what actually happens next when Survivor 51 episode 5, “Not Here to Get a Pedicure,” airs tonight, Wednesday, October 21 at 8 p.m. ET, on CBS and Paramount+!
