Survivor legend Rick Devens gave up Superman for Big Brother 28

Superman's award-winning director James Gunn just revealed that Rick Devens chose to appear on Big Brother 28 instead of Man of Tomorrow this summer.

Chaos demon, pot-stirrer, coin flipper, and eccentric two-time Survivor player Rick Devens has more than a few tricks up his sleeve than just those we’ve seen from him on reality TV, so far. Quite surprisingly, Devens was this close to becoming a movie star as well.

Devens, who just starred on Survivor 50, decided to exchange the beach for a backyard, which is why he’s currently playing on Big Brother 28. While Survivor fans were ecstatic to learn about his new adventure, it turns out this BB opportunity also came at a price: a cameo in the DC Universe's upcoming film and Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, set to premiere in 2027.

As previously mentioned, Devens is playing in the current Big Brother season, where he recently gave a shout-out to DC director James Gunn. Later, Gunn shared an appreciation post on social media for Devens and thanked him for his words.

In the same post, a fan asked Gunn whether he and Devens actually knew each other, to which Gunn responded, "We do. He was gonna appear in the background of 'MoT' but he had to cancel (his awesome wife and kids still came). He couldn't tell me why but told me I'd be excited. Obviously I was!"

While it was surprising to find out about the possibility of Devens sharing the screen with movie star David Corenswet (DC’s current Superman actor), a cameo in a future film might not be too far-fetched to consider. We’ll just have to wait and see our favourite chaos-maker bring his enigmatic presence to the big screen at some point.

As to how his BB journey is going, one could say Devens made the right choice to go play Big Brother. During the game’s first week, Devens’s fellow Survivor 50 cast mate Dee Valladares won the HOH competition (house leader with immunity), which helped Devens stay safe as well.

For the game’s second week, Devens was the one who ended up winning HOH, guaranteeing himself and his allies for a while. Being an entertainer and a gamer to his core, Devens decided to throw a bazooka within the house to shake things up.

Alongside Valladares, Big Brother 26 player Angela Murray, and the rest of their alliance, decided to publicly call out their foes from the opposing alliance, including RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Jason De Puy, during the nominations ceremony.

True to their plan, Devens went ahead and did so as agreed, causing everyone in the house to burst into shouts, tears, and laughter amid the pandemonium. Later, Devens also won the Veto competition, giving him complete control of the week’s outcome.

Anything can happen in the BB house, and so far, Devens’ journey has been nothing short of thrilling. I can only imagine the chaos he’ll stir up next, no matter how long he stays in the game.

If you’re a fan of Survivor or Big Brother and, for some reason, you’re not watching BB28, I highly recommend tuning in. Devens and Valladares are riding high right now, having formed a stacked onion alliance that could take them deep into the competition. While BB’s motto is “expect the unexpected,” I have no doubt Devens will keep us on the edge of our seats with his endlessly entertaining antics until the very end.
