Hold onto your Buffs everyone because Survivor is getting the big screen treatment! Well…sort of.
Jeff Probst has announced that an animated Survivor movie has been greenlit by Paramount Animation, but there’s a twist—because in Survivor there’s always a twist. The scripted film will be a comedy unlike the dramatic unscripted series. Oh, and instead of people, it will be animals competing for the title of Sole Survivor.
“Survivor’s always been about watching different personalities learning how to live together while competing against each other,” the host and showrunner explained in an Instagram video (below), “and setting it in the world of animals gives us a whole new playground…”
And of course, fans already have so many questions!
If all the players are animals, will Jeff also be re-created as an animal or is this going to be a Space Jam situation where animals crash the set of Survivor and the only way Jeff can get them to leave is to host a season just for them?
Are the animals anthropomorphic like in Zootopia where they live in a human-like society with jobs and families and social lives and they audition for the show just like we do in real life?
And will the animals be voiced by our favorite past Survivor players and have similar gameplay traits as their portrayer or is it an entirely new cast of characters voiced by big names or voice actors?
While we might have to wait a while for any specifics, we do have a brief synopsis for the movie: Set on a remote and mystical island, animals from all around the globe compete for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned the Sole Survivor.

But of course, the most important question fans are asking is what animals will make up the animated tribe? If this island is mystical, maybe that means we’ll get a dragon that one of our players has to "slay." Will the Final Two be a snake and a rat and play out “how nature intended?” And a must-have is a chicken character named Mark.
Jeff confirms that the movie will feature, “everything we love about Survivor,” including, “big personalities, funny characters, surprising alliances, competition, chaos, and of course, a lot of heart.” So while it seems like the formatting is leaning more towards entertainment for kids, we hope there’s still those fun nods to our favorite series that it’s getting its inspiration from.
Will update you as soon as we know more!
