Just when I thought season 48 of Survivor was reaching the point of no return, CBS has thrown in a much-needed twist that could help save the season. Warning spoilers ahead for Survivor 48 episode 3!

Heading into the third episode of the season, the one thing I was desperately hoping for was a challenge that would level the playing field and give Vula the chance they needed to finally avoid Tribal Council in the game. The third challenge of the season did help even the playing field via a challenge that saw the players competing blindfolded and having to rely upon communication, but it still wasn’t enough for Vula to pull out a win with the tribe once again going to Tribal for the third straight time this season.

By the end of the night, Vula was down to just three players and it was looking like the season was about to get a whole lot more uneventful given it was about to be two six-player tribes facing off against a three-player tribe. Then CBS dropped the promo for episode 4 which revealed a tribe swap is coming, and it could not be coming at a more pivotal time in the season.

Survivor 48 episode 4 will feature a tribe swap

I truly cannot remember the last time a tribe swap came this early in a season, but after just three episodes, a tribe swap is about to shake up the game and we’re absolutely here for it!

“Everyone drop your buffs,” host Jeff Probst told the remaining players as the promo for episode 4 began. He quickly confirmed a tribe swap was coming and the news was met with understandable annoyance and uncertainty from most players, understandably so. The only ones visibly excited for the change were Vula members Sai and Mary who did not hold back in celebrating the reveal of a tribe swap, not that we’re surprised in any way.

Vula has been a hot mess from the start and a tribe swap is honestly the best thing for Sai and Mary’s games as it gives them the chance to form new alliances and be part of a tribe that actually has what it takes to win challenges in the game. This could be a game changer for Mary and Sai who could have very easily been going home in episode 3 if not for Mary’s Shot in the Dark giving her safety and Justin losing his vote.

As for the rest of the players? Well, this tribe swap could definitely spell trouble for their games. While the players on the Lagi and Civa tribes have not had to face a Tribal Council yet this season, they have had the chance to form alliances within their tribes and build trust in the players alongside them. With the tribe swap coming, those relationships are going to shift and suddenly they might no longer be on the same tribe as the people they trust most in the game.

This is going to shake up the game in a way that is sure to make things more interesting for the viewers at home and create new dynamics within the tribes.

How will former tribemates adjust to being on a new tribe with players they haven’t had the chance to interact with? Will established alliances be able to withstand the challenges that come with the tribe swap or will they be replaced with new alliances? Only time will tell, but what we know for certain is that this tribe swap is going to shake up the game and almost serve as a reset of sorts as the players must navigate new relationships and dynamics within their tribes that could see major shifts in power.

There is a whole lot of game left to be played and this early tribe swap is going to give the season the shot in the arm it desperately needs to make things interesting once again!
